Why We’re (Temporarily) Moving to Hawaii
I intended to write this long, chronological piece about why and how we came to the decision to put all of our stuff in storage here in New Mexico and head to Hawaii for the winter.
But the essence of it is this: my body spoke and I listened.
Pelvic floor problems? Try these essential movements.
Sneeze pee? Incontinence? Lack of orgasm? Prolapse? In this video, I offer powerful essential movements to help you address the problems you’re having with the functions in your pelvis.
Your psycho-emotional environment moves you.
When you can begin to see how your psycho-emotional environment intersects with what's available to you in your body, you can start having some compassion for some of the obstacles you face in your movement. You can also start to change your environment.
You Shouldn't Have to Exercise
You, had your life been filled with movement from the very beginning, wouldn't need to exercise. But your life wasn't. My life wasn't. Which is why we exercise.
I've Gained 30 Pounds
Gaining 30 pounds in such a short period of time is no small thing. It creates an entirely different set of loads on all the tissues of the body, whether it's the feet, the pelvic floor, the lateral hips, or the arms. But this work - this showing up to myself in so many ways and this changing of how I think about and relate to the movement of my body through my environment - has had a profound impact on the way my body can handle such massive changes.
This Pregnancy Has Kicked My Ass
All the healing work I've done, all the movement and dietary changes and emotional preparation, all the stuff I thought would help didn't give me a different physical experience. In the midst of this, two things happened.
I'm No Longer Interested in Exercise
So many of you think you are coming to exercise to fix parts of your body that aren't working. To address dysfunctions that have caused suffering. To get better. And, of course, exercise will do that.
But, over and over again, I see that what is often happening on the deeper level is that you're turning to exercise to fix yourself. Because you think you are broken. Because you want to get out of your body. Because you don't think you're good enough.
Calories, Cramps & My Sedentary Life
I recently went camping alone with my five year old son. This was the first time I camped without another adult and I had a big movement lesson reveal itself to me
Get Too Big for Your Britches (aka Work Your Glutes)
Sure, I don't have the potential to have something big and round on my rear. But I do have the potential to have something modest and round, something other than flat. For my whole-body health, it's essential that I exercise that potential.
9 Body Lessons From Selling My House
Get more out of your move, whether it's a move across the country or a move off the couch.
What My Missionary Mother Taught Me About Movement
You need to move. It helps you meet your basic biological needs. And enhance your relationships. And deepen your sense of community. And grow in love. And be available for the big questions in life.
3 Ways to BLP and Become More Resilient
Is a desire to "get it just right" interfering with the ability to just "get it"?
Where have your feet carried you?
Our feet are important. They contain 1/4 of all the bones in the body and an absurd amount of joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. For most of us, they are the primary way we have of moving our bodies across the earth.
Are You Too Scared to Move?
Maybe you hurt, feel scared, or doubt you have what it takes to really start living IN your body. Things aren't working. Maybe you are tired of trying to change. Maybe you are afraid of change. You want to move forward but you're not sure it's even worth it. The other (minimal) shoe is bound to drop.
Why I Stopped (& Then Re-Started) Climbing Trees
I'm the first person to say that we need to meet ourselves where we are and honor our inner state, be it grief over a miscarriage, fatigue from an illness or total overwhelm from parenting young ones. But when you are ready - and maybe even before you really think you are ready - there will be a tree waiting for you. I hope you give it a climb.
5 Tips to Move More
You've probably noticed that it can be hard to move more. You want to, you plan to, you know to. But the actual doing doesn't happen. I totally get it. Here are some tips that may help you make headway on meeting your movement needs.
How to Fold Laundry (and Work Your Hamstrings)
If you have an obscene amount of laundry to fold and want to get in close to an hour's workout for the backs of your legs, this will fit the bill.
I Want More for You
Why stay active when all your food is harvested for you and you can buy it with the work you do while sitting all day? Why change your life to meet your body's movement requirements when you've been trained to be still since infancy? Why give yourself permission to let the belly release when your entire culture is screaming at you to look thin? Why set aside so much of what you've learned when you've gotten by on its tenets?
